Yesterday was my last day of work at Southwestern Oregon Community College. I worked there for just under ten years. Some say I should have worked for ten years but Mike and I were anxious to get on the road. It was a strange feeling to be walking away from a great job as the Web System Administrator. I worked with an awesome team of people. That is probably a rare thing to find but I really liked my co-workers.
The one thing I won’t miss is sitting all day long on my rear in a office setting. People are suppose to move and not be stationary. With the RV lifestyle I should be able to work on the road on my own terms and hours. I plan to continue working on my photography business and do occasional web projects. I have ambitious plans in the future to bring in additional income so we aren’t just relying on Mike’s retirement income.
I’ve been telling people I’m retiring but I couldn’t officially retire because I’m too young and haven’t worked at the college long enough. Prior to working there I was a freelance web designer so I didn’t have any benefits. I do have a small retirement income though I can draw when I’m at the proper retirement age. Until then we’ll be living with less but hopefully, with the lifestyle, we won’t need as much.
